How to Push Their Emotional Hot Buttons

This is where research really pays off. Because in order to push those buttons, you need to first know what they are.

Listen to this story first, and I'll tell you what I mean: Once upon a time a young man walked into a Chevrolet dealer's showroom to check out a Chevy Camaro. He had the money, and he was ready to make a buying decision. But he couldn't decide if he wanted to buy the Camaro or the Ford Mustang up the road at the Ford dealer.

Luxury Cruising

A salesman approached him and soon discovered the man's dilemma.

How to Push Their Emotional Hot Buttons

"Tell me what you like best about the Camaro," said the salesman.

"It's a fast car. I like it for its speed."

After some more discussion, the salesman learned the man had just started dating a cute college cheerleader. So what did the salesman do?

Simple. He changed his pitch accordingly, to push the hot buttons he knew would help advance the sale. He told the man about how impressed his new girlfriend would be when he came home with this car! He placed the mental image in the man's mind of he and his girlfriend cruising to the beach in the Camaro. How all of his friends will be envious when they see him riding around with a beautiful girl in a beautiful car.

And suddenly the man saw it. He got it. And the salesman recognized this and piled it on even more. Before you know it, the man wrote a nice fat check to the Chevy dealership, because he was sold!

The salesman found those hot buttons and pushed them like never before until the man realized he wanted the Camaro more than he wanted his money.

I know what you're thinking...the man said he liked the car because it was fast, didn't he?

Yes, he did. But subconsciously, what he really desired was a car that would impress his girlfriend, his friends, and in his mind make them love him more! In his mind he equated speed with thrill. Not because he wanted an endless supply of speeding tickets, but because he thought that thrill would make him more attractive, more likable.

Perhaps the man didn't even realize this fact himself. But the salesman sure did. And he knew which emotional hot buttons to press to get the sale.

Now, where does the research pay off?

Well, a good salesman knows how to ask the kinds of questions that will tell him which buttons to press on the fly. When you're writing copy, you don't have that luxury. It's therefore very important to know upfront the wants, needs, and desires of your prospects for that very reason. If you haven't done your homework, your prospect is going to decide that he'd rather keep his money than buy your product. Remember, copywriting is salesmanship in print!

It's been said many times: People don't like to be sold.

But they do like to buy.

And they buy based on emotion first and foremost. Then they justify their decision with logic, even after they are already sold emotionally. So be sure to back up your emotional pitch with logic to nurture that justification at the end.

And while we're on the subject, let's talk a moment about perceived "hype" in a sales letter. A lot of more "conservative" advertisers have decided that they don't like hype, because they consider hype to be old news, been-there-and-done-that, my customers won't fall for hype, it's not believable anymore.

What they should realize is that hype itself does not sell well. Some less experienced copywriters often try to compensate for their lack of research or not fully understanding their target market or the product itself by adding tons of adjectives and adverbs and exclamation points and big bold type.

Whew! If you do your job right, it's just not needed.

That's not to say some adverbs or adjectives don't have their place...only if they're used sparingly, and only if they advance the sale.

But I think you'd agree that backing up your copy with proof and believability will go a lot farther in convincing your prospects than "power words" alone. I say power words, because there are certain adverbs and adjectives that have been proven to make a difference when they're included. This by itself is not hype. But repeated too often, they become less effective, and they take away (at least in your prospect's mind) from the proof.

Which brings us neatly to part 5 entitled "Incorporating Proof and Believability" - coming soon!

Holiday and Food Fusion in Malta

The food on Malta is a fusion of complimentary styles and fine flavours. Whilst the idea of fusion food might appear to be a modern idea it is, in fact, the basis of traditional Maltese cooking. Ever since the conflicts fought on Malta between Christian and Islamic forces in the mid 1500s, the primarily Mediterranean diet adopted some elements of Moorish cuisine, creating a unique combination of Southern Italian dishes with Turkish influences. In recent years, the British have contributed to influencing Maltese culinery directions. During Malta's spell as a British colony, numerous English and Scottish foods were adopted by the island's native population. Holidays in Malta are a great way to taste the result of these various influences in cooking first hand, allowing you to enjoy usual dishes such as Kusksu soup and Ftira. Malta also offers a number of drinks unique to the island, including Imbuljuta, a homemade drink that comes from sweetened chestnuts cooked with cocoa, tangerine zest and cloves.

Traditional Maltese ingredients include the usual Mediterranean staples such as olives, tomatoes and fish, as well as local sea food. National cuisine is still popular in homes throughout the country, and there are countless restaurants and cafes serving their own versions of traditional Maltese foods all across the island. Malta also has plenty to keep you busy between meals too, with fantastic historical buildings, great diving spots and stunning beaches.

Luxury Cruising

Malta villas offer you the chance to experience the nation's cuisine first hand. Walk along Valletta's Waterfront, enjoy a coffee at one of the many cafes that line the main street and spend a lazy afternoon at one of the local markets discovering the variety of local produce that you might like to try. Villas in Malta provide guests with a unique opportunity to try out new flavour combinations in your own personal kitchen, whilst the luxurious Mediterranean décor makes them just nice places to spend time in. As food is central to the local way of life, Malta villas have well equipped kitchens with both traditional and modern equipment.

Holiday and Food Fusion in Malta

No trip to Malta should finish with a visit to Gozo - home to the oldest free-standing structures in the world that date back to before the pyramids at Giza. Less geared for the tourist trade, Gozo represents some of Malta's most authentic flavours and impressive sights. This little island is a must-see attraction if you're really want to see the best of traditional Malta.

Unless you live in Sicily or mainland Italy, travelling to Malta is likely to involve flying. The main airport is handily placed close to the capital Valletta. Malta holidays are ideal for those interested in rediscovering traditional Mediterranean food and some of the world's oldest recipes. Both Malta and Gozo offer fantastic historical sites as well as world-class diving opportunities, luxurious new developments and talented local artisans. Getting there is easy, and numerous airlines run regular flights to and from the island's international airport. There are also numerous ports which are suitable for a range of vessels - from cruise liners to private yachts.

Holiday and Food Fusion in Malta

Mark suggests self-catering breaks in villas in Malta as being perfect for those who want to sample different restaurants or cater for themselves, but for those who don't, holidays on Malta are just as enjoyable in the wide choice of luxury hotels, especially in the stylish Valletta.

How to Rock an Interior Wall with Cultured Stone

An interior wall of drywall or plywood can with a few tools, some material and about a weekend(depending on job size), be turned into a conversational masterpiece. You can make a dramatic back splash in your kitchen or rock your entry way...just use your own imagination.

Materials: You will need...your choice of rock, sand, mortar "Type S", galvanized mesh wire, 1 1/4" roofing tacks, tarp or plastic to cover floor...you may need a grout bag(if you are going to have a mortar joint between the rocks), mortar "Type N" for grout and trim.

Luxury Cruising

Tools: You will need a wheel barrow, mixing hoe, shovel, trowel, mud board, gloves, level and broom.

How to Rock an Interior Wall with Cultured Stone

First cover floor with tarp or plastic to protect floor from splatter. Apply galvanized mesh wire with roofing tacks from stud to stud to ensure that wire is securely attached to the wall.

Now it is time to make the mortar. The recipe for mortar mix is 200lbs of sand (14 square shovels) per bag of mortar mix, 4 or 5 gallons of water. You can purchase sand in 100lb bags, which actually works out good when you are doing a small job mixing in a wheel barrow. It is recommended when using a wheel barrow to cut the recipe in half and only mix 1/2 of a bag of mortar mix at a time. Your mortar mix should be the consistency of cake batter.

Scatter rocks and get a pattern in mind. Spread mortar with trowel over mesh wire a couple of feet at a time. Unless you are laying stack stone, you can start at either the top or the bottom.

Pick the rock that you want to place, spread mortar on back of the rock, not too much, about 3/8" to 1/2" bead of mortar. Too much adds more weight and rock won't stay on wall. Place in on the wall and apply pressure. Give a slight wiggle after pressure has been applied. Allow 3 to 5 seconds for good contact and repeat. The reason for only applying the mortar a couple feet at a time is that the mortar on the wall needs to be fresh so that the mortar on the back of the rock will mesh with it.

River Rock, Castle Stone and other kinds of rock require a 3/8" or 1/2" spacing between rocks for a mortar joint. Stack Stone stacks on top of each other and requires no mortar joint.

After wall has been laid. Wet grout bag, trowel bag 1/2 full of mortar. Twist like a cake decorator, bring point to wall and squeeze. Follow joint around rock getting it completely full, stopping to retwist grout bag as you go. Grout entire wall and give mortar about 1 hour(depending on temperature) to set up. Put on a pair of gloves and use your finger to wipe down all mortar joints. You want your mortar to be just below the rock. This will leave it smooth and give it a cleaned finished look. Sweep wall to remove any leftover dust. If needed you can add a piece of trim at the edge.

Now you have a beautiful rock wall.

The Ten Best Cruise Destinations

Generally when considering cruise popularity you will find that it is determined by a number of things, which can include how convenient it is to reach the cruise liner from your home, whether you have a young family, your age, whether it your first time or if you are single or married.

It is therefore wise to ask yourself what you expect from a cruise before making a decision. Are you looking for black tie glamour, informal luxury, to travel only with people your own age, plenty of entertainment, beautiful surroundings and nature, a good deal or activity and are you traveling on a shoestring?

Luxury Cruising

That is why the top ten cruise destinations are based on previous experience and include cruise holidays in a variety of temperate zones. In effect, there is something here for everyone:

The Ten Best Cruise Destinations

Hawaii

The Hawaiian Islands are a tropical paradise everyday of the year with its green clad volcanic cliffs and awe-inspiring tropical fauna and flora. Visit the magical Dolphin Cove, the fascinating Sealife Park and of course the Polynesian Cultural Centre.

The Caribbean

The best time to cruise the Caribbean is in January and February as the weather is perfect most days, but there is often threat of hurricanes from Mid June to the beginning of December. You can visit all the Caribbean islands as there is only a short distance between each of them, but the Caribbean is not as tropically lush as Hawaii.

Antarctica

Cruises to Antarctica are usually expensive so not suited to those on a low budget and cruise ships do not operate in the Antarctic winter, from March to September. These cruises combine a unique blend of comfort and adventure with soaring glacier cliffs, icebergs and penguin colonies.

The Mediterranean

The warmest months and the best time for sun seekers to visit the mediterrannean is from May to September. It should be noted that many of the
ports are often very busy during the summer, but there are certainly a large amount of destinations worth visiting, including the Greek Islands, Costa del Sol, Liguria Coast and the French Riviera.

Fjords of Norway

The best time to visit the Fjords of Norway is from June to August when it is not so cold. Cruises around these natural wonders are breathtakingly beautiful and humbling, as you sail inside enormous, yet narrow fjords surrounded by high cliffs.

Alaska

The best time to cruise to Alaska is in the warmest months of June to August, as daylight is longer for sightseeing and taking photographs. It's a special place to cruise by glaciers and snow caped jagged peaks on your way to numerous photogenic ports.

Mexico

November to April is the best time to cruise to Mexico, as they are cooler, dryer and less humid than the summer months. This is not the destination for those looking to relax, as Puerto Vallarta, Acapulco and the other ports of call on the Mexican Riviera are full of life and music.

South Pacific

The South Pacific covers a broad area and its destinations include the fertile tropical paradises such as Fiji and Tahiti.

Galapagos

The Galapagos Island are home to giant tortoises, seal lions, penguins, fur seals, marine iguanas and are a place that Charles Darwin visited to observe the unique wildlife.

The Baltic Sea

A cruise to the Baltic Sea is not for the faint hearted in the colder months, but June to august is ideal for visiting Tallinn, Helsinki, Copenhagen and Stockholm.

Top Tips to Speed Up Your Computer

When your PC starts to slow down, it can be a real bind. We have come to depend on our computers so much that having a badly performing PC can seriously impact on our daily lives.

But it doesn't need to be like that. You will be surprised at the variety of things you can do to improve your computer's performance, that involve either no or very little money. You don't need to simply accept that your PC is slow and that there is nothing you can do about it.
Yes, it's true that some solutions may involve purchasing new components, but there's an awful lot of things you can carry out that will either cost you nothing or next to nothing to improve your PC's performance.

Also they're pretty easy fixes, so you don't have to be an expert to give them a try.

Before you spend loads on money on a new PC, read on. So what can you try?

Defragmenting your disk

Windows 7 has improved greatly since Windows XP, but it can still suffer from disk fragmentation over time. New programs get installed and old ones get removed, with the result that a single program can reside on disparate sections of the disk, causing inefficient read and write times. Carrying out a defrag organizes all the applications together again on the disk, so the disk head has less distance to travel.

You can run it quite simply:

Just type 'defrag' into the command line after clicking on the Start menu, or access via Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools. Click on the 'disk defragmenter' icon. In the utility window, check the % fragmentation of the C: drive is (it's only the c: drive that's important, you can ignore the other drives). If it's greater than 10% then you need to defragment. Don't forget to close all your applications first, and preferably start it last thing at night as it can take some time to complete.

You should only need to do this once or twice a year.

More Memory

Boosting your memory can have a really dramatic effect of your computer's speed, particularly if it is short on memory to begin with. If you're running with 2Gb or less, then you are likely to see a big improvement by upping it to 3 or 4 Gb. The main benefits are faster start-up times, and programs will start quicker!

Memory or RAM is very cheap today. Around $20 should buy you 1Gb of RAM.

You can check your memory in Control Panel, under the System icon.

De-clutter your hard drive

This is especially important if you're running low on hard disk space. Clearing out unused files and programs is a fast and effective way to speed up your PC.

You can happily clean out any files in the c:Windows\Temp directory and all of your Temporary Internet files. A good way to see at a glance where all the space is going is to use the 'Disk Cleanup Wizard', found in Accessories.

And remove all programs you don't need. You can access this via the control panel..

Remove Startup and Indexing Programs

By clearing out any programs that run on startup, you can really increase performance and startup times. You might also want to consider disabling any indexing programs and internet Add-ons - they can really cripple the performance on an already struggling computer.

Try running 'msconfig' and check out the applications in the 'Startup' tab. If you look through the list, you should be able to spot certain applications you don't need - Program update checkers are good candidates for unchecking.

Tweak your display

Tweaking the display settings can help, especially if you have an older graphics card. The new 'aero' feature in Windows 7 can be quite graphics intensive on older display adapters, so disable it if not required. Many features can be disabled such as icon smoothing if your graphics card is not up to scratch.

Clean up the Malware

It's important to always ensure you have a reliable up-to-date anti-virus program. As a extra check run something like Malwarebytes through it just to be sure you're clean.

Tidy your Registry

The registry controls everything in your computer so you need to keep it performing well. Be very cautious when editing the registry as one wrong entry can have serious repercussions. Registry problems can include orphan entries, rogue settings from Malware and fragmentation problems.

Unless you're completely confident, don't edit the registry yourself but use a utility you trust to inspect it for you. Remember to backup the registry prior to changing anything.

Registry errors can also cause unwanted symptoms like blue screen errors and freeze ups, so a good registry scan is always a good idea as part of your housekeeping routine.
